I have a acer laptop with Acer SADP-65KB (REV.D) AC Adapter. The power adaptor is acer's standard one, with the large white tipped connection to the laptop. The power brick itself comes with a strap, which is useful for keeping the cord tidy when carrying it around. A lot better than stuffing the cord into a bag and having to spend ages untangling it next time it's taken out.

During the last week, it seems Acer SADP-65KB (REV.D) AC Adapter that I purchased 2 years ago has developed a fault meaning that the AC adapter is not detected by the laptop. It still charges and powers the laptop fine however on every boot it makes a very loud beep and requires you to strike F1 to ignore the warning. In addition, the performance of the laptop is reduced to a minimun.

Then I checked the adapter by the following steps:

1: The LED on the adapter connector doesn't light up when attached to the computer.
2: The adapter only charges the computer intermittently.
3: A separation of the white insulation on the adapter (also known as strain relief)

After looking around, it seems the AC adaptor contains a proprietary 1-wire device that transmits a serial number to the laptop. This is meant to prevent you from using 3rd Party adapters, only using Dell's own adapters. However, the chip and communications are very prone to breakage, which is what seems to have happened in my case. This is not an isolated incident. So I went to everbatt, a very good laptop parts on-line store, and I  got the right one per the below tip:

It doesn't matter whether two AC Adapters are with the same brand,all you need to follow is as bellows:

(1)  The Amps may be higher but they cannot by lower. If higher, no problem, for all electronic products only use as much current(Amps) as thay need but not how much provides.( For example, if the label of your laptop indicates 19V 3.15A, then the AC adapter with the voltage 18V to 19V all works with no harm doing to your laptop, and if you can not find the exact 3.15A AC adapter from these above, just select the next size higher in AMPS.

(2)  The Voltage

must be within 10% of your original AC Adapters(Acer SADP-65KB (REV.D) AC Adapter) Voltage.

(3)  Check the connecter of your original AC Adapter(Acer SADP-65KB (REV.D) AC Adapter), and make sure the AC adapter you want to order matches this one.
