Acer BeTouch E101 is Remaking the 2G Standards
These days, 3G technology is truly pushing the direction of mobile phones. While 2G networks still exist and plenty of GSM devices are still being manufactured, most devices now follow the standard of 3G smart phones.
The Acer BeTouch E101 is now taking 3G standards and bringing it into a GSM device. Naturally, 3G features such as HSDPA are not available on this mobile phone (for obvious reasons), but aside from that, the BeTouch E101 delivers excellent functionality and hardware capabilities.
By 3G standards, the E101 is still a basic smart phone, but by 2G model standards, the E101 is packing serious heat. As part of the BeTouch series, the E101 serves as the 2G version of the 3G E100. The E100 is a fully fledged 3G smart phone, the E101 on the other hand is a 2G version of the E100, giving this mobile phone all the best features you can expect from a GSM device.
Windows Mobile 6.5 Professional
The BeTouch series from Acer was made specifically for the Windows Mobile 6.5 Professional operating system. The new WinMo operating system incorporates a lot of touch screen functionality and web integration. Though the touch interface may not be as fun to use with a stylus dependent resistive touch screen, users will appreciate being able to use the web integrated features.
Do not worry about network connectivity; even if this device is 2G it still supports EDGE so you will not have to be limited to GPRS networks. The OS was made for high end devices, but the Qualcomm 7225 528 MHz processor is more than up to the task of running the software. It also uses the latest Windows Mobile software such as Pocket Office and Windows Media Player 10.
Hardware Specifications
The Acer BeTouch E101 is a device that ensures excellent coverage through its quad band GSM support. As previously stated, it can access both GPRS and EDGE networks. At 113 x 56 x 12.8mm, it's relatively the size of the average small GSM mobile phone, but with more features.
The 1140 mAh lithium ion battery adds to the 118 gram weight of the E101, but that's still light enough to be a bother. The best part of the BeTouch E101 is its 3.2 inch TFT resistive touch screen display. It has a resolution of 240 x 400 pixels, and will display images in full 65k colours.
Other Features of the BeTouch E101
The BeTouch E101 also has a 2 mega pixel camera with up to 2x digital zoom. It's a medium range camera in terns of today's standards, but it is more than enough for taking casual images. You can also shoot QVGA videos in 320 x 240 pixels of resolution.
The Windows Media Player can handle various media file formats such as H.263 and eAAC+ aside from the more common MP3, MP4 and 3GP music and video files. Over all, the BeTouch E101 provides excellent functionality, near smart phone capabilities but all in a basic unassuming 2G package. If you are a GSM user who wants a truly good phone, then the E101 is the device for you.
